All you need to do is build a direct pass-through cable connecting the 9-pin Atari joystick connector to a 25-pin PC LPT (parallel) port.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"1\">There&#8217;s no complex circuitry or schematics required\u2014you are literally just wiring the pins straight from one connector to the other. Anyone can do it! I just used a standard piece of unshielded twisted pair (UTP) networking cable for mine.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"2\">Software &amp; Drivers:<\/h3>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"3\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"3,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">For DOS (Atari800DOS):<\/b> The cable works out of the box using the interface method created by <b data-path-to-node=\"3,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"92\">Petr \u0160umbera<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"3,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">For Windows (Atari800Win):<\/b> You will need to install the <b data-path-to-node=\"3,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"56\">Atajoy<\/b> driver, which was developed by <b data-path-to-node=\"3,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"94\">Robert Petru\u017eela<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"4\">How to Install on Windows:<\/h3>\n<ol start=\"1\" data-path-to-node=\"5\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5,0,0\">Open <b data-path-to-node=\"5,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"5\">Control Panel<\/b> <span class=\"math-inline\" data-math=\"\\rightarrow\" data-index-in-node=\"19\">$\\rightarrow$<\/span> <b data-path-to-node=\"5,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"31\">Gaming Options<\/b> (or Game Controllers).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5,1,0\">Click <b data-path-to-node=\"5,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"6\">Add<\/b>, then select <b data-path-to-node=\"5,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"23\">Add Other<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5,2,0\">Browse to the folder containing the Atajoy driver files, select it, and you&#8217;re good to go!<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Interconnection:<\/p>\n<pre>[ CANON 25 Male ]\t\t\u00a0 [ CANON 9 Male ]\n (acknowledge) 10\t\t\u00a0 \u00a04 (right)\n        (busy) 11\t\t\u00a0 \u00a03 (left)\n(out of paper) 12\t\t\u00a0 \u00a02 (down)\n      (select) 13\t\t\u00a0 \u00a01 (up)\n       (error) 15\t\t\u00a0 \u00a06 (button)\n      (strobe)  1\t\t\u00a0 \u00a07 (Ucc)\n      (ground) 25\t\t\u00a0 \u00a08 (ground)<\/pre>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"0\">I use LPTjoy all the time, and it works completely flawlessly. If you ever get the itch to play PC games with this setup, you might run into a few quirks with the axis settings, but you can usually tweak things to trick the system.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"1\">The biggest thing to keep in mind is that an Atari joystick is <b data-path-to-node=\"1\" data-index-in-node=\"63\">digital, not analog<\/b>. Moving the stick registers as a full, 100% tilt in that direction with zero gradient.
