ASMA is Atari Sound Music Archive. It consists of almost every Atari song. Archive is divided into several sections: classics, various, games, demos…etc. All songs are SAP files. SAP file consists of INFO part (header where information about song and author is stored), MUSIC part and PLAYER part. PLAYER is piece of ATARI code (regular binary file) which plays song of given type. Most songs are created using music composers like Chaos Music Composer (CMC), Theta Music Composer (TMC), MOD Protracker (MPT)…
SAP 1.5.4
(16.10.2001)
Slight Atari Player – Win32 application used to play *.SAP files. It’s little part of emulator which plays sound.
WinAmp SAP Plugin
(25.3.2002)
There is a WinAmp plugin used to play *.SAP files in WinAmp. Installation is simple, just put IN_SAP.DLL into WinAmp/Plugins folder. Some songs constist of numerous tracks (subsongs), it’s possible to show subsong buttons by checking appropriate option in WinAmp plugin configuration. Most songs are looping so you can set song duration, default value is set to 3:20. Sliderbar doesn’t work because song is played by code executed in emulator core…
SapMaker
(29.4.2005)
You can use two software applications to convert your own song to SAP format. They are SAPMAKER and SAP’EM ALL. SAPMAKER is DOS console application, little but powerful. SAP’EM ALL is Win32 application, easy to use, but it can’t repair incorrect header of source song file. This header may be corrupted especially when you extracted song from game or demo. You can contibute to ASMA archive by sending new SAP files which are not included in ASMA archive yet.
